The Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council (DLANC)'s Planning and Land Use Committee discussed the expansion plans for the LA Convention Center last week. Doane Liu (City Tourism Department), Scott Capstack (Populous), and Milena Zasadzien (Department of City Planning) presented an overview of the plans. This expansion, led by the public-private partnership of the City of LA with AEG and Plenary Group, includes construction of a new structure that connects West Hall with South Hall and a redesign of Gilbert Lindsay Plaza to make it a park-like area. The Convention Center expansion will work in tandem with the expansion of the JW Marriott, which was also presented at the DLANC Planning and Land Use Committee meeting. These two projects will help make LACC a more competitive convention destination and expand the number of hotel rooms within walking distance of the LACC.
